Bread

The smell of it baking…

The crunchy crackle of an artisan crust when you bite into it…

The way the butter melts into it fresh from the oven…

I knew bread was going to be my downfall on my ketogenic journey.

Because I am officially a breadaholic.

Or, as my sister so kindly put it, the Queen of Carbs.

I’ll eat pretty much any kind of bread pretty much anywhere at pretty much any time of day or night.

But bread is so high in carbs that I knew it would never fly on keto.

Plus, most of the bread you buy at the store has at least 2 different types of sugar in it. Which is so dumb!

I’ve made bread for years. And with the exception of sweet breads for breakfast or dessert, I’ve never put sugar in my bread.

SO not necessary.

But that’s a rabbit hole for another time.

Or maybe it’s a soapbox.

It’s probably actually both…

Anyway, I quickly learned that there are breads that are perfectly keto friendly. Not exactly the same as non keto breads, but oh, so wonderful just the same!

Especially warm with butter melting on them… 🙂

What is life without bread?

Pretty dang boring, that's what!

The Best Keto Bread

This is a wonderful sandwich loaf.

Slices well, toasts great, and stands up to hefty sandwich fillings.

Thanks to the added yeast, it even tastes just like not keto bread! It's a great go-to.

Soft Keto Bread

This recipe is one I actually tweak a little by adding a sugar cinnamon streusel that I swirl into the batter.

If you want to do that, just mix a powdered sweetener with some cinnamon to your liking (usually WAY less cinnamon than sugar) and add half the batter to the pan, sprinkle half the sugar mixture and repeat.

Then take a knife and swirl it through.

Makes the most amazing French toast.

Just sayin...

Keto Bread

This recipe has a crunchy, crispy crust that I just love!

This is my go to for hamburger buns, slider buns, and hoagie rolls.

You will love it, too.

Almond Flour Bread

This one is from my friend Victoria at Practical Gaps.

It's GAPS and Paleo compliant as well as keto. So if you know anyone following those guidelines, send them her way.

This is another recipe that makes a great French toast. I've also used it for bread pudding.

And it's by far my favorite for making croutons.

Cut the bread into cubes and soak them in melted butter flavored with garlic powder, onion powder, and parsley flakes.

Spread on a baking sheet and dry in a 200°F oven overnight. Store in an airtight container.

They should keep for a few weeks.

Assuming they last that long...

Keto Bread Rolls

This is my go-to recipe for ham and cheese sliders.

When football season rolls around, you're going to want this in your game day snackage.

It's made a lot like the fathead pizza dough, so it's already got some cheese going on.

Best. Sliders. Ever!

It's also a great roll to go with a bowl of soup.

Especially French Onion soup...

90 Second Keto Bread

This microwave bread recipe is a great breakfast bread.

It's one of those that tastes slightly eggy, so I think it's perfect for a breakfast sandwich.

Great for a grab and go breakfast!

I've even toasted it and used it for keto Eggs Benedict.

Best Keto Bread Recipe

This amazing loaf reminds me of whole wheat bread.

Which I love.

More than I love white bread.

Which is a lot.

Sometimes a gal's just gotta eat whole wheat bread to satisfy that craving. Right?

Not any more. Now I make this instead.

Craving satisfied? Check!

Still eating low carb? Double check!

Keto / Paleo Baguette

And this recipe is what I use in place of French or Italian bread.

Smells so amazing when it cooks. It includes buttermilk which gives it an almost sourdough taste.

And I really miss sourdough, so I love it.

Garlic & Herb Focaccia

Love the flavors of Italy? I sure do!

And this garlicy, olive oily focaccia is the perfect counterpart to your low carb Italian feast.

Or just pair it with a salad if you are looking for something a little lighter.

It's perfect either way.

15-Minute Tortillas

We are crazy into Mexican food at my house. These tortillas have been a life saver.

The most tortilla-y ones I've found. I probably make these once a week.

At least.

They are perfect for tacos, quesadillas, and fajitas.

I've even thought about frying them up as chips to go with my salsa. But that would be a VERY bad idea.

Because I would eat all of them.

By myself.

At one sitting...sigh...

Almond Flour Biscuits

No self respecting Southern or Southwestern kitchen would be without a go-to biscuit recipe.

Because we serve biscuits with pretty much everything.

These are soft and buttery and just begging for keto sausage gravy or sugar free blackberry jelly...or maybe that's just mine...

Keto Pumpkin Bread

This keto pumpkin bread recipe had to be in this list.

Because, pumpkin spice!

It's moist and delicious and not overly sweet.

Perfect for fall and perfect for gifting. And they will never know that it's a diet bread!

Blueberry English Muffin Bread Loaf

We love this blueberry sweet bread for dessert.

Or breakfast.

Or a snack.

It's safe to say it's a favorite around here. It makes a beautiful loaf and makes great muffins as well.

So it would be perfect for breakfast on the go.

Chocolate zucchini bread

No list of favorite bread recipes would be complete without at least one chocolate recipe.

At least, not my list of favorites.

This is ooey gooey and chocolatey perfection. And it even has some veggies in it.

But, shhhhhh, don't tell anyone.

I shred it really fine and no one knows but me.

And that, my friends, is my list of favorite keto bread recipes. Something for everyone and every taste.

I hope this inspires you to give keto bread a try at home.

Because life without bread is just too sad to contemplate…

Peace, love & keto bread!
