10 Craft Ideas to do With Seahorse Coloring Pages

Seahorses are fascinating, and it’s not surprising that kids love coloring them.

Here are 10 affordable, hands-on, and fun craft ideas you can do with your completed coloring page!

1. Make a Beautiful Wall Ornament

Take an ordinary paper plate and glue it on tuffs of blue tissue paper to create an “ocean.”

Color and cut out two seahorses, add craft eyes, and draw on smiles.

Glue a layer of cotton balls on the back of each seahorse, and paste them to the “ocean,” facing each other.

It will look as if they just met and are smiling at each other under the sea. Hang this adorable craft from a string in any room you choose.

2. Design a Seahorse Window Fringe

This terrific group activity is fun and interesting for children of all ages.

Have them color their seahorses using multiple shades and add embellishments such as glitter, puffy paint, or swatches of tissue paper.

When finished, give the youngsters a long piece of yarn or package string, and have them string their seahorses into a long banner to be put on display.

3. Make Seahorse Drinking Straws

All children like using straws, but what could be better than a seahorse straw? Give each child a plastic straw from a novelty store; they can be plain or fancy.

Have them color and cut out their seahorses. The brighter the colors, the better. The seahorses should then be folded into a fan pattern, but this must be done vertically!

Have them punch a hole through all three layers into which the straw can be threaded, and when the seahorse is fanned back out, you have a terrific drinking straw.

4. Create an Under-the-Sea Poster

Starting with a plain piece of poster board, have them draw a freehand seascape.

Next, the child should cut out the colored seahorse and give it a 3D look with puffy paint, crêpe paper, cotton balls, glitter, or any other craft item.

The seahorse should then be affixed to the poster with tape rings, or rubber cement and cheerios can be glued in a line coming up from the seahorse’s mouth as air bubbles!

5. Create an Initial Ornament for a Locker

If students in your class want to dress up their lockers, nothing is better than a seahorse initial ornament.

Once the seahorse is colored, it should be cut out and affixed to cardboard. Its tail can be reinforced with a pipe cleaner, onto which the child can attach his or her initials.

This is completed by cutting the letter out of construction paper, sealing it in clear packing tape, punching a hole in the top, and threading it through the pipe cleaner.

6. Seahorse Ponytail

A seahorse makes a perfect embellishment for a ponytail band, and this craft is simple and easy to make.

Have your child color and cut out the seahorse, and with a paper hole punch, make two small holes on either side of the seahorse’s body, about midway up.

Thread ponytail elastic through the holes and tie the ends together.

Fasten the ponytail so that the seahorse appears to be clinging to the hair for an adorable accessory.

7. Make a Seahorse Pinwheel

Most kids love pinwheels, so they’ll enjoy making one from seahorses!

Coloring the seahorses in bright, primary colors, somewhat like stained glass, makes this craft especially pretty.

Once they have finished this step, all the seahorses should be connected in a circular fashion by their tails and a large craft stick attached to the back.

When moved through the air, the seahorses will spin like a pinwheel.

8. Design Homemade Aquarium Decals

If your child has an aquarium, there’s nothing better to decorate it with than a seahorse theme.

Have your child color and cut out several seahorses, which can then be laminated with contact paper.

At strategic places on the outside of the fish tank or aquarium, the seahorses can be attached to make this plain object fancy and colorful.

9. Make a Seahorse Bracelet

A seahorse bracelet is simple and easy to make and only requires some glassine or laminate paper and a small piece of Velcro.

When the seahorse is colored, it can be precisely cut out or cut in a strip with the seahorse in the middle.

Next, seal the seahorse with sticker paper, glassine, or clear packing tape, and attach a small Velcro closure.

The seahorse has now become a bracelet!

10. Create a Seahorse Mobile

To create an adorable seahorse mobile, have your child color 4-6 seahorses, glue them to cardboard, and carefully cut them out.

With construction paper, your child can make “wings” for the seahorses simply by folding the construction paper into a fan and cutting it down to size.

When the “fan” is taped behind the seahorse, it looks like it’s flying.

Once these are attached to a large embroidery hoop with some string, the ensemble can be hung up as a pretty mobile in the child’s room.
